A Docufiction Short Film
created by Youssef Mutawe
While struggling to understand his place as a second generation Jordanian–born Palestinian, Abood's uncle returns from Canada with stories of his youth as a refugee following the Naksa.
Soon after, and with his uncle's stories fresh in his mind, Abood finds himself lost in the streets of Amman, where he meets a young stranger who offers to guide him home as she shares her thoughts on the country, the people, and her identity as a Palestinian living in Jordan.
This is a deeply personal film, both in terms of the true accounts spoken by my father as well as the coinciding fictional story about the identity crisis faced by many diasporic Palestinians born and raised in a country that feels foreign to them.
It is often not one person who changes our perception, but many, all working unknowingly in tandem.
Despite this being a concept unrelated to identity, it is a core element when altering one, and the basis for the approach of Abood's shifting relationship with the world around him.
This film will be playing at the 16th Toronto Palestine Film Festival on September 29, 2023, both online and in person! Come check it out! It's FREE!
